3 Treatments Down 3 To Go!
Chemo days are always stressful for me. No Food for Gracie on chemo days so I try to wait until I'm taking Gracie out the door before I put the food down for Charlie. This morning both of them were acting funny. They did their normal morning play routine but then Charlie kept going in front of Gracie and sitting down in front of her like he was protecting her. When it was time to go Charlie got in front of her again and didn't want to let her come to me. It was funny. I got Gracie out the door, put Charlie's food down and then went to get Gracie in the car, but she didn't want to get in. She just kept going and sitting back down by the fence get to get back into the yard. Odd...it's like she knew where she was going or something. We finally got on the road....off to GVS. Gracie's regular oncologist Dr. Hamilton was away today so Dr. Smith was taking his place. We passed along the info from Dr. Miller at Village Vets about her urinalysis and the instructions to check the BUN/CREATIN levels and call Dr. Miller before treatment because he was concerned something might be going on with her kidneys. Apparently there was some kind of miscommunication and the cell phone number I passed to have Dr.Smith call Dr.Miller didn't get relayed and Dr.Smith called the Village Vets number instead....it got me a little stressed just because I didn't want anything with Gracie's treatment, or any adjustments that needed to be made, to slip through the cracks. I finally talked to Dr.Smith and everything was sorted out. Gracie's levels were good, her xrays were good and her treatment went well. She slept the entire way home from GVS...snoring of course. I have to say she was not feeling her best but she certainly was happy to see Charlie and he just started licking her head and whining. So sweet. They really are such good companions. Charlie stayed right by Gracie almost all night. Gracie did have some leaking again like after her 2nd chemo treatment, but hopefully we'll get that sorted out when we get the urinalysis cultures back, it could also be because she was on IV fludis all day with her treatment too. Just something we'll have to keep an eye on. I'm glad Gracie's home and back with her brother Charlie.
